Lee Daniel is Professor of Spanish at Texas Christian University and founding chair of the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies. He served as chair from 1995-2001. He teaches Spanish and Spanish American literature and culture. He has served as Vice-President of Sigma Delta Pi for the Southwest region for two three-year terms. He was President of SCOLAS (Southwest Council of Latin American Studies) for 1994-1995 and the editor of the SCOLAS Bulletin/Boletín SCOLAS from 1992-2002. He has published three books: Cuentos de Beyhualé (York Press), The Loa of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (York Press) and Basic Conversational Spanish (Kendall-Hunt).

He is currently preparing a book tentatively titled Paper Cities: the Mexican Fictional Town. He has published two introductions: one for Carlos Morton’s Johnny Tenorio and other plays (Arte Público Press) and another for a special issue of Ollantay Theatre Magazine. He has published 52 articles and 41 reviews in such journals as the Latin American Theatre Review, Hispania, Discurso Literario, Confluencia, Chasqui, Letras Femeninas, the South Central Review and The American Hispanist, among others. His research interests range from the contemporary Chicano dramatist Carlos Morton and the Mexican novelist and short story writer, Joaquín Bestard Vázquez, to the 17th Century Mexican dramatist, poet, and nun--Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. He has also published articles on the Panamanian writer Rosa María Britton and the Costa Rican writer Rima de Vallbona. He has presented his research in papers read at conferences across the United States and abroad. He is chair of the University Academic Appeals Committee and the Departmental Advisory Committee.
